Binod Kumar Bawri

Founder, Ayussha

A third-generation industrialist with over five decades of experience building enterprises that have shaped North-East India's economic landscape.

A Legacy of Enterprise

Binod Kumar Bawri's entrepreneurial journey spans more than fifty years and six decades of industrial transformation in India. As a third-generation member of the Bawri family, he inherited a tradition of enterprise that began in 1860. But rather than simply maintaining the family legacy, he expanded it into entirely new industries.

In 1969, he entered the construction materials sector through plywood manufacturing, establishing operations across North-East India. This move into materials processing would prove to be foundational, building the deep technical understanding of materials science that would eventually lead to Ayussha.

Calcom Cement

In 1985, Binod Kumar Bawri founded Calcom Cement India Limited. Under his leadership as Chairman and Managing Director, the company grew to become the largest private sector enterprise in North-East India. Calcom became synonymous with quality and reliability in the region's construction industry, supplying cement for critical infrastructure projects across multiple states.

“The cement sector alone accounts for approximately 8% of global CO2 emissions. This awareness planted the seeds for what would become Ayussha's mission.”

The experience of leading Calcom gave him an intimate understanding of the construction industry's environmental impact. The cement sector alone accounts for approximately 8% of global CO2 emissions. This awareness planted the seeds for what would become Ayussha's mission.

Philanthropy and Policy

Beyond business, Binod Kumar Bawri has been deeply committed to the communities where his enterprises operate. His philanthropic work spans education, healthcare, and economic development in North-East India. He has served on multiple policy bodies and industry associations, contributing to frameworks that balance industrial growth with environmental responsibility.

His policy work has focused particularly on sustainable development in emerging regions, advocating for approaches that create economic opportunity while preserving natural resources and local ecosystems.

Founding Ayussha

In 2012, Binod Kumar Bawri co-founded Ayussha with a clear mandate: to apply the materials science expertise accumulated over generations to develop solutions for climate change. Having spent decades in an industry that contributes significantly to global emissions, he understood both the scale of the problem and the technical pathways to solving it.

His vision for Ayussha is grounded in pragmatism. The transition to sustainable infrastructure won't happen through ideology alone. It requires materials that perform as well or better than conventional alternatives, at costs that make adoption economically rational. This is the standard Ayussha holds itself to.
